Project Summary

The project aims to:

  • Strengthen human capital in climate innovation and entrepreneurship through training and mentoring of students, academic, and non-academic staff.
  • Develop interdisciplinary capacity for climate and social innovation by creating climate innovation labs and engaging ecosystem actors in project development.
  • Support the readiness and competitiveness of SMEs for climate challenges and digitalization.

In the first phase of the project, a training and mentoring program was developed and tested  with two research institutions as full partners and associate partners from regional ecosystems that  are close to working life.

Another activity was the development of a roadmap for the value and engagement of climate  ecosystem actors by identifying common goals and motivations. At this stage, the project also began  to develop climate innovation labs. As part of the third objective, the project conducted a survey  among small and medium-sized businesses to identify their needs and created a portfolio of support  services to be tested.

In Phase 2, each university continued to develop a curriculum in accordance with its subject  area. At the end of the project, the consortium will develop "climate microloans" that are fully  compliant with the Common Microloan Framework.

The Climate Innovation Labs will develop research and innovation projects based on pre defined areas of influence/mission for climate action.

As part of this project, the King Danylo University team developed a roadmap for the  restoration of energy infrastructure in the post-war period. The developed concept for the restoration  of Ukrainian infrastructure was presented at the Geneva Conference.

The team of our university held a number of events aimed at raising awareness of students,  teachers and the general public about the challenges and problems posed by climate change. In  particular, the Innovation Week was organized, during which meetings with various focus groups  were held to strengthen human capital in the field of climate innovation and entrepreneurship by  training and mentoring students, academic and non-academic staff in solving systemic problems.

Outcomes

  • Capacity Building: At least four HEIs adopted 'climate micro-credentials' developed during the project.
  • Ecosystem Integration: At least eight climate and social innovation projects were developed across four smart-specialization-based ecosystems.
  • Regional Growth: Over 32 start-ups and scale-ups improved their capacity for climate transition, digital transformation, and competitiveness.
  • Institutional Change: A multidisciplinary mechanism and incentive system were implemented to foster integrative education and research activities.
